This time last year not only heralded the start of a new chapter in the history of West Ham United but also for us at Blowing Bubbles. We were able to hand out 10,000 free copies of our August and September issues thanks to the businesses in and around Stratford, and we didn’t look back as we settled into life as West Ham’s only fanzine.
The matchday sales days from October to May presented their own challenges but they were arguably some of my favourite days last season with meeting some of our fantastic subscribers as well as having the opportunity to meet a plethora of new readers.
Yet I’m going to be denied this opportunity this month with no home games and you know what? I’m actually quite sad about this. Will this become commonplace? I hope not. Certainly Karren Brady didn’t believe it would happen when she said football would take priority at our new home.
Despite a slow start in the summer transfer window compared to the likes of Everton, I’m really looking forward to the start of the season thanks to the arrival of Joe Hart, Marko Arnautovic, and Javier Hernandez. These three players will undoubtedly have a bigger impact than Zaza, Calleri and Tore did last campaign.
I was sad to see Darren Randolph leave the club but you felt he would’ve perhaps become our third choice ‘keeper with Adrian such a fan favourite. Enjoy the season!
